Riassumo un pò brutalmente una parte di questo post (che fra l’altro in parte non condivido) per arrivare al punto:
- Le ricerche confermano che esiste un narcisismo crescente nella società americana, specialmente fra i giovani (vedi Fame Junkies: The Hidden Truths Behind America’s Favorite Addiction
- Questo narcisismo è causato dal sogno americano (tutti possono avere successo, tutti possono diventare presidente) e alimentato dall’esigenza di hollywood di creare nuove star a basso costo;
- Quando il sogno di diventare famoso si infrange contro la realtà uno dei risultati è l’uso di sostanze psicostimolanti quali le metanfetamine;
- Una delle vie d’uscita da questa spirale perversa (almeno stando a quanto osservato nell’america rurale) è la rinascita spirituale cristiana (Born again Christianity) nella quale:
The fervor for fame which was suppressed by meth re-emerged in zealous religiosity. Christianity promised an even less visible salvation: God’s grace. While blind faith is at the root of both fame-seeking and Christianity, Christianity offers a much more viable explanation for failures: God is teaching you a lesson… be patient, worship God, repent, and when you reach heaven you will understand.
While i have little issue with the core tenants of Christianity or religion in general, i am disgusted by the Christian Industrial Complex. In short, i believe that there is nothing Christian about the major institutions behind modern day organized American Christianity. Decades ago, the Salvation Army actively engaged in union-busting in order to maintain the status-quo. Today, the Christian Industrial Complex has risen into power in both politics and corporate life, but their underlying mission is the same: justify poor people’s industrial slavery so that the rich and powerful can become more rich and powerful. Ah, the modernization of the Protestant Ethic.
Dunque perchè in una società dove è piuttosto diffusa l’idea che non tutti possono avere successo e nella quale l’etica protestante non ha mai preso veramente piede esiste una trasmissione come Amici? Ovvero perchè da noi assistiamo ad un fenomeno analogo pur in un contesto culturale in apparenza completamente diverso? Esiste una qualche connessione fra questo diverso contesto culturale ed il diverso successo dei siti di social networks alla MySpace fra i teenagers italiani o siamo solo in ritardo di qualche anno?
